Eucalyptol is an organic compound obtained from oil of eucalyptus and from other sources. It can be used in fragrances, and cosmetics and it can be used to enhance skin permeation of bio-affecting agents. Eucalyptol is an ingredient in many brands of mouthwash and cough suppressant and also as the insecticide and insect repellent. Eucalyptol was tested as constituent of toothpaste in an oral long-term study with specific pathogen-free CFLP mice.
