Cola
A species of flowering plant in the Sterculiaceae family, Cola attiensis, was found to be active against a visceral Leishmania isolate at a concentration of 50 micrograms/ml or less. Cola attiensis extract obtained from the plant possesses visceral anti-leishmanial properites. It inhibited parasite catabolism of 5 of the 21 substrates used in the assay, with the strongest activity observed on the disintegration of ornithine, L-proline, L-aspartic acid. There is no available report on any previous chemical analysis of Cola attiensis. However, it is found currently that cola attiensis can be used, among other things, for the treatment of migraine, bronchitis, and catarrh.
